Crawley Keyboard Club

Crawley Keyboard Club

There is a group in Crawley that is hitting all the right notes! Although, based in Crawley, members travel far and wide to be part of the group with some travelling more than 20 miles to attend concerts featuring national and international artistes which are held on the last Friday of the month.

Crawley Keyboard Club prides itself on being a friendly club – making visitors and new members feel welcome. Formed in 1989, the club continues to flourish at a time when many are facing difficulties with an ageing membership, this club is proving successful in retaining membership numbers.

The club’s concerts boast a range of music which appeals to all tastes including – popular, light classics, musicals, big band and swing, music from the 1960s and 1970s and huge music stars such as the American icon of Glenn Miller – big band musician, composer, and bandleader in the swing era.

Performers come from across the country and Europe – some of whom have illustrious careers, whilst others are breaking through, but, all often use Crawley as a stopover whilst touring the UK or Europe, the USA or the Far East and have performed at the world-famous Blackpool Tower ballroom.

In addition to the monthly concerts, there is an opportunity for members and visitors to play, or just listen, in an informal environment on the second Friday afternoon of each month from March – October, known as DIY afternoons these are held at Furnace Green Community Centre in Crawley.

At the DIY sessions refreshments are available and the club asks for a small donation to help offset the hire of the venue. As with the concerts, all ages are welcome and you can be sure of a friendly welcome from the charitable group of keyboard players and enthusiasts of live music in Crawley.

Members can bring their own keyboards to play and meet others in a non-formal atmosphere, giving everyone a chance to get to meet others who have similar interests – the sessions begin at 2.00pm.

On concert evenings, doors at the Furnace Green Community Centre open at 7.00pm for a 7.30pm start and generally finish at 10.00pm. The venue offers easy free parking, and tea and coffee is served during the interval.
