Ellie Firmo, 19, is a Surrey musician looking to live the musical dream, currently living in Brighton, she is a student at the city’s prestigious BIMM (British & Irish Institute Of Modern Music) Institute.

For more than 35 years, BIMM through its eight colleges in cities including London, Manchester and Birmingham, as well as the Brighton college has prided itself on taking raw talents and turning it into industry-ready professionals and its star-studded alumni includes the likes of music stars James Bay and George Ezra.

Ellie says her passion for performing and making music goes back to her childhood, growing up in Surrey, she says: “I’ve dreamed of being a musician ever since I was 10. My dad’s a musician so I’ve been raised with music around me constantly. I wrote my first song when I was seven, granted it definitely wasn’t revolutionary, but it was the first outlet I found to express myself. I’ve always been happiest when performing, so I’ve known from a young age that it was what I wanted to do with my life.”

As well as at school, the student has a number of gigs under her belt, she performed at Guilfest, gigs at Goffs Park in Crawley, performed live on Crawley’s Hospital Radio and in addition to this she has taken part in open mics across Surrey and Sussex and has more planned in the coming months.

Speaking about her musical inspiration, Ellie says: “I’ve always been massively inspired by Adele. Her tone and style of music is exactly what I want to achieve. She’s an incredible musician in my eyes and I respect her greatly. Etta James is also a love of mine. Her use of a band and vocal technique is inspirational, and her song At Last has a special place in my heart. Troye Sivan is also an inspiration in regard to what he has achieved and how he has achieved.”
