Summer is here! For some the thought of sitting in a theatre maybe more of a winter occupation but for me, I love to leave the theatre when it is still light or sample some of the wonderful outdoor shows to be seen.
As tourist season picks up you can still see terrific shows around the region but particularly in London and along the coast.
There is nothing better than sitting in a beautiful garden, possibly with a picnic and being entertained by live theatre. There are lots of choices available to you this summer.
The Hawth in Crawley are utilising their amphitheatre on the 2nd of July when production group Illyria perform The Taming of the Shrew and there is more open-air Shakespeare on offer at the end of the month in the Italian Gardens, Eastbourne with an open air production of the classic Twelfth Night.
Hever Festival in it’s 33rd year has a varied programme of drama and music which takes place in the gardens of the glorious Hever Castle (one of my favourite places)
Watch out for the new open air theatre in Brighton too! We are looking forward to hearing more about their programme.
As always London makes full use of it’s outdoor spaces in the summer in particular Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre has a fantastic programme this year, as Peter Pan draws to a close after rave reviews, the rest of the season includes Chekhov’s ‘The Seagull’ followed by the classic musical ‘Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’ and ‘Lord of the Flies’ – if you are looking for something a little different Opera Holland Park’s version of Alice in Wonderland will be very special event and just perfect for introducing the children to Opera.
With all these suggestions who would not want a bit of English sunshine, but if you are looking for something a little bit more traditional to take the family along to, children can go to West End Shows for free throughout August!
