New Recruit Joins East Grinstead’s Firefighting Ranks

East Grinstead welcomed a new on-call (retained) firefighter in the autumn as part of West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service’s recruitment which saw a total of seven new firefighters join the service.

The West Sussex recruits successfully completed their initial training at Worthing Fire Station before being welcomed by family and friends at their pass-out parade.

Many of the new recruits have full-time jobs elsewhere in their communities, by living or working close to a fire station, they can be paged at any time to respond to an emergency situation.

Neil Stocker, deputy chief fire officer, said: “The role of an on-call firefighter is an incredibly rewarding, but challenging, job. These new recruits have all demonstrated that they have the dedication and skills to become a real asset.”

The seven new West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service recruits are: Gareth Ide and Warren Boyt – Chichester, Ashley Howells – East Grinstead, Aaron Randall – Littlehampton, Toby Merritt-Smith – Midhurst, Jack Osborne – Selsey, and Adam Laundon – Shoreham.
