Improvements to the station bridge and area surrounding Wivelsfield station will begin in September as part of the Burgess Hill Place and Connectivity Programme.

Work will soon begin to brighten up Wivelsfield Station bridge following the recent installation of murals. The artwork was recently created by artists working alongside the Worlds End Association and Manor Field Primary School. By repainting the under-bridge, replacing and upgrading the lighting, these improvements will help to make the station area more welcoming to residents and visitors.

The bridge will remain fully open to pedestrians and traffic throughout the duration of the improvement works although it will require pavement closures. The local community will be informed when the pavement closures are required.

This project is part of the Place and Connectivity Programme which is gathering pace with projects taking place across Burgess Hill to improve public spaces and encourage people to walk and cycle. The scheme is part of a wider package of improvements to Wivelsfield Station area to provide better walking and cycling connections to the station and a lift for step-free access. The Programme is being delivered by Mid Sussex District Council and West Sussex County Council in partnership with other agencies.

Councillor Judy Llewellyn-Burke, Deputy Leader at Mid Sussex District Council said, “This lighting and brightening work at Wivelsfield station has been a long-held ambition of the local community. It will enhance and improve the existing features to create a safe and attractive space. We are really pleased that it will be one of the first of the many projects across the town leading to transport and public space improvements for residents.”
