Give The Game Of Chess A Go In East Grinstead

Are you interested in the game of chess? If so East Grinstead Chess Club welcomes players of all  abilities, especially those looking to improve their game or have not played since school days. The club offers taster evenings where visitors can find advice.

The club has an interesting history, in May 1955 a letter from Mr M J Eichner was published in an East Grinstead newspaper suggesting the formation of a local chess club. He received three replies and from an informal meeting held in Ashurst Wood, the first East Grinstead Chess Club was founded.

After nearly 64 years the club is still vibrant and meets on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm at Age UK Centre, meeting from September to April. The club is a small and friendly one which always welcomes new members and meets in comfortable surroundings and is a member of the Mid Sussex Chess League.
