Get Ready For Spring: Kid’s Cycling Club Is All About Fun And Learning

  • News

It’s pretty chilly outside at the moment but the minute spring comes, weekends will be spent trying to get the kids outside – and this club might just be the thing to convince them.

Charlie Burrell is a cycling coach and bike ability instructor. In 2015, he decided to become a cycling coach in Mid Sussex after realising there was nothing available for children.

“Cycling runs in my family – my dad was a club rider and my Granddad went to the Olympics, we have a passion for road and track racing,” Charlie told RH Uncovered. “I was the Sussex Juvenile Road Champion and raced for GB.”

When realising there was nothing in the local area for kids, Charlie became a Qualified British Cycling Coach, Bike Ability Instructor, Mountain Bike Leadership Instructor, and made sure he was first aid trained and insured.

“I started the children’s group lessons in 2015 every Saturday morning which went from strength to strength with numbers,” he said. “I charged £5 per child per lesson which lasted one hour and it was for any age children as long as they are off stabilisers and riding confidently.”

He stopped for the winter as it was too wet to ride but is looking forward to getting it back up and running in spring.

“I still do one-on-one lessons throughout the year for all abilities and ages, whether you want to come off stabilisers or simply improve your bike skills in a traffic free environment,” he added.

“The group lessons are great for improving bike skills, starting, stopping, cornering, balance, racing, health and safety, bike maintenance.”

Charlie says the last few years cycling has really taken off and more people are cycling than ever for all kinds of reasons. He said the group sessions are a great way for children to build their confidence and go on group mountain bike rides.

Charlie added: “Children love to cycle but unfortunately it can sometimes be difficult for parents to teach their children for various reasons.

“I get a great deal of satisfaction in teaching cycling and think everyone deserves this life skill.”

If you want to get your child(ren) involved in the cycling club, you’re advised to contact Charlie to show your interest and find out more about the location and timings. Email mts247@hotmail.co.uk
