Dunottar School Leads the Way in Remote Learning During Coronavirus Pandemic

Dunottar School in Reigate, has been leading the way in remote learning – supporting its community of pupils and parents during the coronavirus school closures.

Due to a significant investment in technology for Dunottar by United Learning, pupils are continuing to follow a full school timetable via their school iPads – ensuring an important sense of normality and structure to their day.

Julie Adams, a Dunottar parent commented, ‘I’ve been really impressed with Dunottar School’s home learning programme. My son has been busy all day long, it’s just like he’s been at school. I love the fact that the teachers are able to communicate with the children like a normal lesson’.

Interactive lessons are hosted via Microsoft Teams, with pupils able to engage in lively and interactive discussions with classmates and teachers. Pastoral support, which is at the heart of the school’s ethos, continues through online form time, with pupils able to maintain valuable connections with their form tutors and peers. Resources and daily challenges from the Sports Department encourage pupils to remain active which is essential for their physical and emotional wellbeing.

Mark Tottman, Headmaster at Dunottar School, said ‘Dunottar’s impressive IT infrastructure combined with the creativity and collaboration of our fantastic teachers, means that we are aiming to teach every pupil, every lesson, every day.  Our pupils therefore remain engaged, active, connected and on track their learning even though our classrooms are closed’.

Dunottar is also extremely proud of several staff members, including our Chair of Governors, who have selflessly volunteered to work on the NHS frontline in the fight against coronavirus. Their resilience and strong values truly reflect Dunottar’s Warrior Learner ethos.
