Walking locally – Step out for summer

What better way is there to enjoy the summer than the great outdoors? In Surrey and Sussex we’re incredibly lucky to have some stunning strolls and wonderful walks – let’s get out and get fit!

Walking is free and simple, as well as being one of the easiest ways to get more active, lose weight and lead a healthier lifestyle. The advantages of walking range from helping to improve both your physical and mental health, and by walking you can save money, as well as the environment.

So, whatever your ability, step out for summer this year and explore the best of the countryside on your doorstep – a chance to see more of the scenery which we all too often overlook. Get those wellies, trainers or walking boots (don’t forget, they were made for walking!) on and walk locally!

To find a list of the best walks across Surrey and Sussex, why not visit your local council website for routes and further information such as public rights of way:

Do something incredible this year!

One local charity would like to give you the opportunity to do something incredible this year – not only will it give you a great sense of achievement but will help an extremely worthy cause.

Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity based in Billingshurst is organising a walk on Saturday, September 17 to raise money for the charity’s work supporting babies and children with cerebral palsy.

There will be two sponsored walk distances – one of 35km (taking around 8 – 9 hours) and one of 12km (taking around 2 – 3 hours) – so the choice is yours as to which is most suitable.

The walk takes in the beautiful South Downs, starting at Arundel Castle before concluding at Devil’s Dyke, just outside of Brighton and is open to anyone who likes walking or a challenge.

The charity has organised an exclusive mystery prize draw for fundraisers who reach the £100 target.
