West Sussex Highways Teams Tackle More Than 260 Emergencies During Weekend Storms

Highways teams from West Sussex County Council have tackled 119 emergencies as Storm Dennis arrived at the weekend – Storm Ciara had caused 149 callouts in 24 hours the previous weekend.

Following the weather warnings, West Sussex Highways had put extra support teams on standby over the course of both busy weekends – all part of the council’s #WinterReady preparations.

Roads closed due to flooding during the wild weather included: Jane Murray Way (near B&Q), Burgess Hill; Lowfield Heath Road, Crawley; Radford Road, Crawley; Two Mile Ash Road, Barns Green; Kerves Lane, Horsham; Horsham Northern Bypass, eastbound; Horsham Road, Broadfield; Station Road, Petworth; Shermanbury Road, Partridge Green; Lower Street, Fittleworth; Swan Bridge Corner/London Road, Pulborough; and Drungewick Lane, Loxwood.

A West Sussex Highways spokesperson, said: “We would like to remind road users to please adhere to road closed warning signs and never risk driving through floodwater. We would also like to thank the public for their patience while the clear-up continues, and special thanks to the teams from our contractor, Balfour Beatty Living Places, for all their hard work over the two weekends.”
