Running Up That Hill!

Whether you’re a seasoned runner, or enthusiastic beginner, looking for a fun challenge – Lingfield Running Club’s Dry Hill runs, taking place next month, could be your next test!

Always falling on the first Sunday in September (this year’s will be on 6th September), the Club’s annual event aims to unite runners of all abilities, with their five (DH5) and ten mile (DH10) routes, through the stunning Surrey and Kent countryside and, not forgetting up to south-east Surrey’s highest point; Dry Hill.

“The run attracts a wide variety of competitors as it combines a tough, hilly multi-terrain course with superb scenery and delicious home-made cakes at the end – so popular with spectators, too!” Lisa Compton from Lingfield Running Club explains.

“The route starts and finishes half way between the villages of Lingfield and Dormansland where there are eating and drinking places to enjoy after the run. But, the main point of interest on the route is Dry Hill itself, with its Iron Age fort and views of the North Downs and the Weald to the south.”

Both the five and ten mile runs will start at Young Epilepsy, St Piers lane, Lingfield from 10:30am, with the majority of the course being predominately off-road.
Water stations will be available on the DH10 route, at the five and seven and a half mile markers, while back at HQ – all (including spectators) can enjoy refreshments.

“Each year, Lingfield Running Club supports local, regional or national charities from the profits of the DH10 & DH5 races,”  Lisa continues. “Last year we were able to donate £500 to the Kent, Sussex and Surrey Air Ambulance and this year we are hoping to raise a similar amount in support of two charities; Surrey Search and Rescue and St Catherine’s Hospice.”

When asked for her top tips for taking on either route, Louise told us: “Prepare for the hills and wear off road shoes for the muddy sections!”
