West End Smash Hit Evita Comes To The Hawth

Next month, the West End smash hit musical Evita featuring the music of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, and lyrics by Tim Rice comes to The Hawth Theatre in Crawley on September 18. The show chronicles the life of Argentine political leader Eva Perón from humble beginnings in rural Argentina to her rise to power.

[one_half] Evita began as a rock opera concept album released in 1976, its success led to productions in London’s West End in 1978. The show went on to win the prestigious Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical, and on Broadway a year later, it was the first British musical to receive the Tony Award for Best Musical.

What has followed has been a string of professional tours and worldwide productions and cast albums, as well as a 1996 film starring Madonna and Antonio Banderas. The musical was revived in London in 2006, and on Broadway in 2012, before running to the West End at the districts’ Dominion Theatre.

Now, following smash hit runs in London’s West End and New York’s Broadway, theatre producer and film maker Bill Kenwright’s production of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Evita is thrilling audiences across the UK with its hit tracks including Don’t Cry For Me Argentina and Oh What A Circus.

With a stunning musical arrangement, the show tells the story of Eva Perón, following her journey from humble beginnings through to extraordinary wealth, power and status in the South American nation which ultimately lead her to be heralded as the spiritual leader of the nation by the Argentine people.

With more than 20 major awards secured globally, a 1990s Oscar-winning film version starring music legend Madonna and Antonio Banderas and featuring some of the most iconic songs in musical theatre history, this popular smash hit musical show promises to be one of the theatrical events of the year.
