The Horley Active Retirement Group are Raising Funds for Community Centre Defibrillator

The group are among many other local groups that are finally back after months out from face-to-face meetings. Every Tuesday afternoon the group meet at 2:00pm until 4:30pm at Regent Hall Community Centre in Horley.

Of course, like many groups, T.H.A.R.G are in need of some new members and fresh faces to join their sociable and entertaining group for retired men and women. Included in the 2 and a half-hour meeting is 45 minutes of ‘Keep Fit’ which is suitable for everyone, no matter the ability. This is followed by a variety of activities such as guest speakers, demonstrations, entertainment, days out and much more. With the afternoon ending with some lovely refreshments and a good old chin wag!

Each year, The Horley Active Retirement Group decide on a worthy charity to raise funds for, and this year’s chosen cause is to raise enough money to be able to pay for a defibrillator to be installed inside Regent Hall where the group meet, weekly.

Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) cost between £750 to £1,300 each. They can also be hired for around £18 a month but of course, it would be more cost-effective in the long run to have one permanently installed. Experts say the use of an AED along with CPR gives an unresponsive person the best chance of survival.

If you are in need of some more social interaction, new peers and a bit of fun then The Horley Active Retirement Group is absolutely for you. Please direct interest to Chair of the group, Margaret Hentley on 01293 775774 or email maggymail@blueyonder.co.uk
