Reigate Rotary Club Sets Students A Flutter

Members of the Rotary Club of Reigate organised a butterfly competition which encouraged students from two local schools to learn more about butterflies and win prizes.

Two schools took park in the competition – Merstham Primary School and Sandcross Primary School – with students receiving butterfly larvae, flower seeds and a net.

The schools’ children created butterfly propagation patches, they watered and tended and watched caterpillars develop, writing life cycles and making observational drawings.

The competition was judged by Linda Travis, president of the Surrey Area of the National Association of Flower Arrangers, who said: “A great deal of thought and effort has been shown and the enthusiasm of the students is a pleasure to see.”

Judges from the club say they were impressed with both entrants and decided to award both schools joint-first place, with them both receiving certificates and book tokens to the value of £100.
