Last year, more than 60 elderly local residents from in and around Merstham were invited to be guests at a special lunch to celebrate the 70th birthday of Prince Charles, Prince of Wales and Duke of Cornwall.

The guests were treated to a special roast beef lunch at the Merstham Centre in Weldon Way, prepared, cooked and served by local volunteers of Age Concern together with members of Reigate Rotary Club.

The organisations are actively providing events for the elderly who often find it difficult to venture out of their own homes and the event was an opportunity for guests to enjoy a lunch and socialise.

Organisers say, unfortunately, Prince Charles was unable to be present as he was being treated to a meal at Buckingham Palace. However, special guest, the deputy mayor of Reigate & Banstead was in attendance helping to serve the sparkling wine to diners.
