All At Sea With Reigate’s Sea Cadets

While we may be a few miles from the coast, Reigate’s Sea Cadets are a thriving group for children and young adults, aged 10-18 years, who support our future sea cadets, through naval-based activities and skills.

The unit was established in 1938 and now has almost fifty members, all enjoying sailing and adventure training. Each Tuesday night, the group’s dedicated members take part in parade nights, at Hooley Lane, Redhill, which as Civilian Instructor, Sarah Chatfield explains, builds self-confidence and communication skills and teaches cadets to take an active role in their local area:

“During parade nights we offer instruction to cadets in areas such as first aid, seamanship and adventure training which help to build self-confidence and self-discipline as well as key communication and leadership skills.

Juniors are also offered instruction on parade nights, however, they follow a different programme to the older cadets, with topics such as learning about their local community and recreational games.”

Speaking of the community, the group take part in many events, with cadets currently preparing for leading the Brockham Bonfire parade, the Remembrance Day service held in The Belfry Shopping Centre and helping with bag packing and Christmas wrapping in The Belfry, just before Christmas too.
