Reigate Students Clinch Lego Award

Earlier this year, a team of students from Dunottar School in Reigate won the Robot Performance Award at the First Lego League regional tournament for youngsters aged 9 – 16 years-old held in London.

The league aims to encourage an interest in real world issues and develop key skills, crucial for future careers, and gave students the chance to design, build and program an autonomous Lego robot.

Two teams representing Dunottar competed against 20 other teams at the regional tournament at Queen Mary University, with Dunottar Dark Matter achieving the highest score in the robot rounds.

The seven pupils from the school aged 10 – 15, were awarded points for how successfully their robot achieved missions such as sliding down a ramp, and they were also tasked with presenting ideas to a panel of judges on problem solving.

Dunottar’s head of computer science, Sally Berry, said: “A huge amount of hard work and commitment from the students has gone into preparing for the competition.”
