New Chief Executive For Surrey Charity

Godstone-based Orpheus Centre announced the appointment of Dr Rachel Black as the charity’s new chief executive in the spring to replace Graham Whitehead who moved on after seven years.

Dr Black started her career in nursing before moving into teaching as well as the children’s hospice sector, before spending three years as director of care for Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice in London.

Speaking about the appointment, Dr Black, says: “We live and work in challenging times and I am energised for us to work together to ensure young disabled people fulfil their own aspirations as they navigate their individual roads to independence.”

Orpheus was set-up in the mid-1990s when musician Sir Richard Stilgoe and neurologist
Dr Michael Swallow started piloting music weeks for disabled people which provided to be hugely popular and successful events.
