Star of England’s Ashes winning team of 2005, Matthew Hoggard appeared at Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s CARE Awards earlier this year. The awards at Epsom Derby Racecourse recognised the performance of staff, partners and volunteers working in the trust’s services.

The retired cricketer spoke movingly about his own mental health problems during his international cricketing career. Evening entertainment was provided by dancers from Surrey’s CAMHS Youth Advisors (CYA), a group of more than 200 young people with experience of mental health services.

Fiona Edwards, chief executive of Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, said: “CARE Awards are always an inspiring occasion, and this year has been no exception. We’ve heard wonderful accounts of the amazing work and dedication of our colleagues.”

This year the NHS trust received its highest number of nominations, with more than 270 teams and individuals put forward. For a list of CARE Award winners, visit: www.sabp.nhs.uk/aboutus/care-awards
