Sharing Surrey’s Fab Four’s Flare

Surrey Artists Open Studios is giving people a chance to step into a hub of creativity, meet with friends and experience the incredible work of four artists, each with something fresh to offer. The Open Studios is a unique organisation supporting artists in Surrey.

The county-wide arts initiative Surrey Artists Open Studios is open to the public on three weekends this month; 3 – 4, 10 – 11 and 17 – 18 June 2017 at two different venues with free admission.

There are four talented artists taking part this year, between them, they are covering all bases. Three artists will work under one roof at a studio named Palettes and Tripods on Vicarage Lane in Horley.

Full-time mum and painter Sarah Williams works in oils and mixed media covering the subjects of nature, the human-made and the decaying. She has created art projects for Meath Green Infant School.

Suzy Woolston is a freelance graphic designer and primarily draws animals in pencils, pen, ink and acrylics. The third is Nicola Somers who paints the natural world in vivid colours. She is also a teaching assistant at Meath Green Junior School, running the school’s art club.

In a studio in Horley on Albert Road is David Aldersmith, a sculptor working in wood and stone. David also draws in pencils and pastels.

Often, viewing artwork on the internet is like walking by a gallery on a rainy night and wiping the fog from the glass to get a peek. You think you can see the art but there is a barrier obscuring your vision.

Visiting these studios, you get the opportunity to be a part of the experience and meet other like-minded people, and before you know it, you have yourself a community, an art ecosystem.

If you decide to attend one of the open weekends, you will have the chance to watch the artists while they work, view their pieces, speak to the artists about their work and even buy an original piece of art.

Are you an artist? If you are interested in publicising your work, networking with other artists, gaining access to opportunities and creative events and gaining opportunities to sell your work at events like these, then join the community at Surrey Artists Open Studios.

Each year visitors say they wish there was more publicity so more knew about Open Studios and there are accessible artists in Horley. Artists try to advertise as much as possible with a limited budget.

Open studios is an opportunity for the public to access artists to learn more about the process of their work or simply, to just enjoy viewing it. The team at Palettes and Tripods always enjoy meeting people thinking about embarking on an arts course or degree.
