Liven Up Your Home Office

Liven Up Your Home Office

Liven Up Your Home Office

How was your summer break? Did you manage to put your feet up and enjoy some well deserved time away from work? With September here, now is a great time to think about livening up your home office or workstation wherever it is in your home so it is ready for work and you can be productive as possible.

If the summer has seen home working take a back seat, now might be the time that you start thinking about giving your home office or workstation a lively spruce up as the days become shorter. If you have to contend with a delipidated desk, a spartan seat, or if your folder is overflowing, a facelift is in order.

When it comes to getting down to business think about how tidy your workspace is, if you are limited for space, a good tidy up really is necessary. Start by clearing out old paperwork and stationery which you no longer require – where you can, give away or recycle. In a digital age, it is not just paper which can make a workspace untidy, think about any printer or lighting cables or leads which need tidying up.

As challenging as it might be, try to keep in a good habit of keeping the desk tidy and make sure that all available storage is used, as it is likely that storage in of all spaces, a home office will be very limited. If space and storage is limited, think about using a wall-mounted desk which does not take from a room, except wall space, and instead you have space to play with once again, once the desk is folded away.

A home office facelift will not be complete until the space is given a sense of style and think about the colours which you wish to use, colours affect moods – orange is believed to increase productivity, whilst if you are looking to add a splash of colour to soothe think about blues and greys. Once you have added colour, go for a finishing touch such as a house plant which can help purify the air and absorb noise.

Where To Set Up Your Working Space

Go Outside
Where budget allows, consider building, or having a garden office built whereby you can dedicate a work-focused zone without distractions. An outdoor space away from the main hub of the home can be a great way of limiting distractions from family goings-on and in summer you can enjoy the view.

Go Under Stairs
Does your home offer a void beneath the staircase which is not always being utilised? If at present the space under your stairs is no more than a dumping ground for gym kits, PE bags or unwanted Christmas presents, why not transform it into a functional home office space where you can get down to work?

Go Into An Alcove
If your home has an alcove space, whether in a dining room, lounge or spare bedroom, think about using that space for a small, yet convenient space to work. Alcoves can be often neglected, but if designed properly can offer a workspace where otherwise an empty space would go to waste.
