Autumn Show & Horse Trials returns for weekend of countryside fun for all the family

The ever-popular Autumn Show & Horse Trials will return to the South of England Showground, Ardingly, West Sussex, on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September 2026. Organised by the South of England Agricultural Society, the event will run from 9am to 5pm each day and offers a packed programme of equestrian action, countryside pursuits and family entertainment, making it the perfect autumn day out for visitors of all ages.

The major highlight is the South of England International Horse Trials, celebrating its 50th anniversary at Ardingly in 2026. Leading riders will compete in FEI International CCI3* and CCI2* classes, alongside British Eventing competitions from BE90 to Intermediate level, with the HorseQuest Novice Masters Series taking place on Sunday.

Visitors can enjoy dressage, showjumping in the main Ardingly Ring and thrilling cross-country action, as well as horsemanship displays and the ever-popular Pony Club Mounted Games.

Beyond the horse trials, the Autumn Show celebrates the best of the countryside with activities including fly casting, archery, axe throwing, bushcraft workshops, angling and cookery demonstrations, plus sheep shearing displays. Dog lovers will find plenty to enjoy, with gundog, longdog and search & rescue dog displays, have-a-go agility, and a fun dog show.

The event also celebrates the very best of rural life and the autumn harvest, with the popular South of England Honey Show competition, alongside impressive horticultural entries and flower arranging. Traditional favourites, including vintage tractors, steam engines and heritage vehicles, will also be on display.

Families will discover plenty to keep younger visitors entertained. The Animal Barn will be home to cattle, pigs, sheep and goats, while falconry displays, rabbits, poultry and a funfair ensure there is something for every age. Visitors can even try milking Clover, the life-sized model dairy cow, at the Society’s Countryside Hub, where they can also find out more about the Society’s charitable work to promote agriculture, inspire future careers and provide grants across the rural sector.
