New Year, New Job In East Grinstead

A new job service is poised to open its doors in East Grinstead to help job seekers across the town and surrounding villages. Filling the void of the absence of a Job Centre Plus in the town, The Hope Job Club will support to those who are currently out-of-work in the East Grinstead area and looking for employment.

The Hope Job Club was officially opened at the town’s Jubilee Community Centre in the autumn by East Grinstead Town Mayor, Cllr Rex Whittaker and The Hope Job Club’s director, Ade Awonaike. The event was attended by town and district councillors as well as local business leaders, charities and those who want to volunteer, or become members of the club to help those locally. 

The Hope Job Club’s services to the community of East Grinstead will focus on increasing confidence and ability with a series of online courses, ranging from basic to advanced, applying for jobs, support with CV writing and preparing for job interviews. The job club’s helpful services will be free and accessible to all job seekers at East Grinstead’s Jubilee Community Centre from Friday, January 4. 

The Hope Job Club is a community expression of The Hope Church (THC), a parish of The Redeemed Christian Church of God based in East Grinstead and led by Ade Awonaike and a team of volunteers.

Ade has a bold vision for the community in East Grinstead – he hopes that THC, though a new church will add value to the community even in the smallest of ways. 

The motivation for setting-up the club is to help those in the local community who are either looking to get into work for the first time, get back into work after a long period of unemployment, or require help making a career change. Most job seekers until now have had to travel to Crawley or Haywards Heath which has spurred the church’s  members into organising action.

The club’s organisers are looking for those with links to local businesses who can give someone who is committed to giving their best some work experience and the opportunity to secure employment. The Hope Job Club also needs volunteers looking to give something back to their community, acting as a jobseeker-buddy or mentor, providing practical support and encouragement.

Speaking about the job club opening its doors to January job seekers, Ade Awonaike, the club’s director, said: “To job seekers anxious about returning to work our simple message is that we are here. To local volunteers interested in helping others find work, every skill or experience you have is important and may be the lift someone else needs – join us and let’s make a difference together.”
