How RH Uncovered helped The Greenaway Foundation double its community impact

A community-focused media partnership with shared values

When RH Uncovered’s founder, Matthew, set out to support a local charity, he wasn’t just looking for a cause – he wanted a meaningful media partnership. After seeing the tireless work of Darren and the volunteer-run team at The Greenaway Foundation, it was clear RH Uncovered could help raise awareness, support a Sussex-based charity, and make a difference for local families.

What began as a conversation in August 2024 quickly became a strategic partnership, with RH Uncovered stepping in as the Foundation’s official media partner in the run-up to Christmas.

The Greenaway Foundation supports families who fall through the cracks of formal aid – providing essentials like food, clothing, school supplies and transport year-round. Its Christmas campaign is especially well known, delivering festive meals and gifts to struggling families across Sussex and Surrey.

Joining the campaign at a late stage, RH Uncovered needed to act fast – identifying where we could make the biggest impact and helping to drive visibility, engagement and results.

Each month, RH Uncovered created a double-page spread for the Foundation, with each feature aligned to a specific goal – from securing sponsors to encouraging volunteer sign-ups. The monthly content kept the charity and its Christmas campaign top of mind across RH Uncovered’s community magazine readership and advertiser base.

Email campaigns to advertisers and readers

Targeted emails were sent to both databases to drive donations, event attendance and sponsorship interest – reaching thousands of engaged local readers who already trust RH Uncovered as their go-to for community news.

Social media support

Social posts across RH Uncovered’s platforms extended reach and reinforced each month’s message, helping maintain consistent visibility in the run-up to the Christmas campaign.

In addition to magazine and email exposure, editorial was also published online to give the campaign extra presence and a central place to direct readers for further info.

Adding value beyond media

A quick intervention to a long-standing problem

From the outset, it was clear The Greenaway Foundation’s website was holding the campaign back. Darren explained it had been a challenge for years – first getting it built, then working around its limitations. With more people heading online after seeing RH Uncovered’s coverage, it simply wasn’t ready to handle the engagement.

We stepped in quickly – rewriting key content and improving the user journey where possible. But this was a sticking plaster, not a rebuild. It wasn’t our site, we were constrained by existing structures, and time was tight.

We had to balance this with the needs of our own business and clients – and that made it even more important that the time we gave was used well. Despite the constraints, the changes had a real impact – and sparked a shift in how the charity views its digital presence. Without that intervention, the 2024 campaign could have looked very different.

530% increase in website traffic:

From 348 unique visitors to 1,845 in the first month alone.

48% uplift in donations:

As a result of improved visibility and increased engagement across all media channels.

Volunteer surge:

For the first time ever, the charity had more volunteers than it could accommodate – a rare challenge for a community campaign in Sussex.

Expanded reach:

Previously focused within a 7-mile radius of Crawley, enquiries came from as far north as the M25 and south to Burgess Hill.

100% of sponsorship packages secured:

All 35+ sponsorship opportunities were filled by local businesses – ranging in value up to £2,500 – covering everything from festive meals to gift funding. A direct result of the increased visibility through RH Uncovered.

Ongoing corporate support secured:

Several businesses have now offered help with website development, CRM systems and tech support, keen to contribute after discovering the charity via RH Uncovered.

“On a daily basis we were receiving enquiries from volunteers, donations were up 48%, and many of the companies I spoke with already knew about us – they’d been following the articles.”

Driving change within the charity

One of the most powerful outcomes of the campaign wasn’t just external – it was the shift it created inside the charity itself.

The consistent exposure, encouragement and support helped build real momentum. As Darren put it, “I was no longer able to jog along at a comfortable pace – it was like being put on a treadmill with the speed turned up to full.”

More people got involved, more businesses stepped up, and the team behind the Foundation found themselves operating at a new level. With greater visibility and growing support, the charity was able to respond faster, think bigger, and aim higher.

“I ended up gift wrapping, loading hampers, even speaking at a sponsor event. Volunteering during my time off was the best decision – and I’m so glad RH Uncovered introduced me to it all.”
