Take To The Water!
If dry land has got too much for you, why not try a water-based group, club, or activity? We have got a rundown of groups, clubs and activities you can get involved with in and around Sussex and Surrey!
Sailing
Sailing is a relaxing activity allowing you to enjoy the nature around you and the tranquillity of the water. There are many places offering sailing at a range of prices. Tilgate Park in Crawley offers sailing on their beautiful lake which you can sail on for the day. Weir Wood Reservoir in East Grinstead hosts sailing activities – you can join the dedicated sailing club, Weir Wood Sailing Club, which is based there.
Swimming
Like sailing, swimming is suitable for all ages – it could be used for fitness as swimming is known for improving your health, and it can be used for leisure and fun! Locations such as the K2 leisure centre in Crawley and the Triangle leisure centre in Burgess Hill deliver a great mix of fun and fitness, with slides and play areas for children and pools for adults who want to swim without the distraction of kids! K2 is home to Crawley Swimming Club which welcomes keen swimmers aged five and older – it also offers professional training and coaching.
Kayaking
For the more adventurous, kayaking provides a fast-paced activity which can be a good, fun day out! Although it might not be suitable for young children, it can still involve everyone from beginners to seasoned pros. Weir Wood Reservoir offers courses such as the kayaking experience allowing beginners to become more comfortable in the water. Travelling further afield, Chichester Watersports Centre offers kayaking at a low price which can be hired and taken out.
Scuba Diving
Scuba diving is not typically associated with England, but there are clubs such as Crawley Divers which offer courses. The courses can see you become a qualified diver! They offer a try dive session – this is a taster session before you fully commit to the programme of training. Scuba diving is an extraordinary sport which allows you the freedom to see the beautiful nature which lives in the deep blue sea!
Fishing
Fishing offers a chill-out experience which is fun for all ages. There are a variety of clubs close to home such as Crawley Angling Society allowing members access to seven fishing waters in the Crawley area, with memberships for junior, senior and couples available.
Whatever water sport you choose, they all offer a unique experience – have a good time on, or in the water, but remember to be safe!
