Japan Uncovered

Japan is a fascinating and enthralling place to visit – a fusion of ancient and modern – think temples and tech, Cherry Blossom and Shibuya Crossing, Mount Fuji and bullet trains. This month, the land of the rising sun is on the rise, and Japan is uncovered.

For a number of years Japan was one of the Far East’s best kept secrets, but these days it is one of the world’s fastest growing tourist destinations. With the 2019 Rugby World Cup kicking off on September 20, and the Olympics in 2020, the growth in visitor numbers shows no sign of stopping. So, what makes Japan so special?

Everything Has A Japanese Twist
Iconic symbols such as sumo, geisha, temples and Mount Fuji draw people to Japan, but it is the way simple things are done differently which stays with you – once you have used a high-tech Japanese toilet you will never want to use a standard one again!

Unique Stays
For an authentic Japanese experience, spend a night or two at a ryokan – inns with hot spring baths, delicious multi-course dinners and traditional interiors, including sliding doors and tatami mat floors. There are also minshuku, charming family-run inns, and Buddhist temple lodgings.

Seasons
While cherry blossom makes spring the most famous season, Japan is a great year-round destination. Winter brings with it stunning snow-capped landscapes and world-class winter sports conditions, summer has no end of festivals, and with leaves painting the landscape shades of orange, autumn’s beauty rivals even that of the cherry blossom.

Japan Is Safe
As a nation which prides itself on honesty and respect, Japan has one of the lowest crime rates in the world, making it a top choice for families and solo travellers.

Transport Is A Breeze
With clean and efficient public transport, travelling in Japan is stress-free. Commuters form queues before boarding and ticket conductors even bow to passengers before entering and exiting carriages.

Not Expensive
Whilst it is not as cheap as other parts of Asia, Japan is reasonably priced, entrance to a temple can cost as little as £3, subway journeys from £1, and dining out is usually cheaper than in the UK.
