New Year, New Fashions: Trends To Try For 2017

A new year and with it comes new fashion trends; exploding onto the catwalks and hitting the High Street. But what are they? We uncover all the trends you need to know about for 2017. Get ready to turn heads!

Stripes
From timeless Bretons to figure-flattering verticals, stripes are a fashion staple and they’re back with a bang for 2017. For Spring and Summer 2017 (SS17) this effortlessly easy to wear fashion favourite has been boldly updated! Look-out for multi-coloured stripes, bright colours and thick widths to update your look. Wear stripy tops with jeans and flats for an understated style or team fashion-forward vertical striped dresses with relaxed biker jackets and chunky boots.

Slogan tees
Something to get off your chest? Tell the world, without having to utter a single word with a slogan t-shirt! From motivational quotes to chic words, slogan tees have been popping up in stores for the last few months and already have many celebrity fans. Wear your heart on your sleeve (or, well, your chest) with tees and sweatshirts displaying your favourite saying and team them with denim jeans, jeggings, pinafores and skirts for a casual, off-duty look.

Distressed Denim
The love affair with denim continues! Already mentioned multiple times, denim is one of the easiest things to wear – as it goes with everything! This season the focus falls on distressed denim with fraying, ripping and fading filling stores fast. From denim jackets to jeans, fashionable rucksacks to drop hem dresses, there’s plenty of ways to wear distressed denim!

Gingham
Once only a must-wear for school girls, gingham is predicted to be a big trend for 2017 and has already been spotted on SS17 catwalks. Instead of cutesy pinks and yellows, this once young pattern has been modernised with a grown up, yet girlie update. Black, deep navy and forest green are the in colours to be seen in, whilst shirts, tunic dresses and Capri-style trousers are garments to seek out. Match with black jeans, tights or fitted roll-neck jumpers to look chic this season.

Khaki
It’s a colour usually associated with the military, but looking at recent catwalks, it seems that khaki is the shade to be seen in. Giving a nod to utility and practical wear, must buy items include shirt dresses, tailored trousers and parka coats. Add chunky ankle boots, oversized jewellery and leather-look bags for head-turning ATTEN-TION.
